Crosslines Churches of the Joplin Area What is Crosslines? Congregations: Active in Local Mission At this time, volunteers from over 50 different congregations give four hours of service one day each month to Crosslines. When a congregation volunteers, it means that the members will be available to work to meet the emergency needs of area low-income families for that day. A Volunteer Organization It takes many people to work in the food and clothing center each day. Volunteers work directly with the clients and thereby receive the benefit of knowing they are actually carrying out God’s commandments. Volunteers are trained in procedures for working with clients and handling the work details of the center. A Clothing Bank Clothing, bedding, dishes and small appliances are distributed to qualifying families who shop in the center once a month. Household items are stored and given upon request. There is no charge for these items. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday to receive donations. An Emergency Food Program Each congregation is asked to set aside at least one Sunday per month to collect food for Crosslines, thereby providing their members an opportunity for “hands-on” mission giving. An average of 325 food requests per month – generally on referral from the Jasper County Family Support Division – are filled by volunteers. A Resource & Referral Program The Crosslines office staff is prepared to help in emergency situations and to refer clients to those in the community who can provide services not offered at the Center. Special Programs Crosslines provides diapers and layettes for new mothers. New shoes are available on referral from school personnel. Caps and mittens are distributed to children during the winter months, and a Christmas toy room is set up each December for children of Crosslines’ shoppers. School supplies, blue jeans, underwear and shoe vouchers are given out to children in grades K-12 each August. Sewing classes are held twice a year. Funding and Grants Crosslines provides assistance with past due rent and utilities for qualifying, low-income clients. Crosslines is funded by donations from churches and individuals in the community. Financial statements are available upon request.
